FV 432
FV603 Saracen
GKN Sankey FV432
The FV432 seems to have been around for ever. It originally entered service
in 1962 and production ceased in 1972. Nevertheless, it is still used by the
British Army, in a range of variants.
During the mid 2000s, a number of FV432s were refurbished by BAE
SYSTEMS as the up-armoured Bulldog patrol vehicle, for service in Iraq, with
extensive add-on armour, uprated transmission and mechanical running
gear, as well as modern diesel engines.
Despite their age (most are now double the age of their crews), the
modernised vehicles proved a big success.
This is a Cromwell 1/72 resin kit of an FV432 fitted with a Peak
Engineering GPMG turret.
FV603 Saracen
The Alvis Saracen was the armoured personnel carrier variant of the
FV600 series, sharing many mechanical components with the Saladin,
Salamander and Stalwart. As well as driver and commander, it could
carry 8 troops and was manufactured from 1952 to 1976, seeing wide
service with the British Army and 23 other nations.
Saracens were used for policing duties in Northern Ireland during the
early 1980s, some being fitted with water cannon in plac eof their
turret. .
